In addition to today’s Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for June 11, 2007:

Back in April Yahoo! announced that short descriptions would soon be required for all ad descriptions at some point in the future. Well… that point has been announced: June 20. On June 20, ad descriptions inside Yahoo’s US search results will be 70 characters or less. If you haven’t updated your ads to the new short format, your existing ads will be cut off at the 70 character mark. Don’t wait around for Yahoo! to cut your ad descriptions down for you - log in to your account and get your ads updated ASAP!Headlines of Note

icon_star.png The Windows Live Effect - split from services to succeed? [LiveSide: OurView]

When Microsoft said it was breaking it’s online endeavors up into a zillion little pieces and names… most people were confused. Many said that the idea to have two main online channels (MSN and Windows Live) was a bad idea. And ultimately it still might turn out that that is true. But according the LiveSide, the move seems to be paying off a little… so far. There almost has to be external factors at play here, though. I can’t think of any other time where a splintered, confusing brand image worked better than a single, unified front. Can you?

icon_star.png Ask.com: More User Satisfaction + Outdated Index? [Multiple Sources]

First, from Read/Write Web, a story suggesting that Ask.com’s new interface offers 20% more user satisfaction. You might be asking yourself where that number comes from. Basically… it’s the percentage of additional search results that are available without scrolling on Ask.com news page compared to Google. I’m not really sure that equates to “user satisfaction”, though. User satisfaction has a lot to do with search results. And as the second story I wanted to mention suggests, Ask.com has a long way to go before it’s search results are completely satisfying. It’s not so much a story as a WebmasterWorld thread, but users are discussing 301 redirects that Ask is still indexing years after they were implemented. Indexing issues have been my biggest complaint against Ask.com as well.

For a while I thought Matt Cutts’ response to Privacy International was going to be the dominant story on Techmeme all day. But then Apple had to go and release Safari 3 for Windows (yeah… for Windows… I’m really excited about trying it out!!!).

Not bad for a Monday, news-wise. Until tomorrow… have a great night!
