In addition to today’s Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for August 22, 2007:

icon_star.png The Paid Links Debate Rages On - SES San Jose 2007 [SEOmoz]

If what I’ve been reading is true, those of us not at SES San Jose have missed the best session is recent search conference history. An expert panel of search marketers, SEOs, and search engine representatives debated the “evilness” of paid links. Of the numerous rundowns on this session, the one posted at SEOmoz was my favorite. SERoundtable also has a great writeup on the session. I guess those of us who didn’t attend the standing room only session will just have to wait with baited breath to see if anyone got it on video.Headlines of Note

The more “features”, that is. Yahoo! has been rolling out new features into their marketing tools… and they’ve been watching you. No, not in a creepy big brother kind of way (at least I don’t think so). They’ve been watching how Internet marketers use these new tools and features… and I guess they’re just getting the usage Yahoo! was hoping for. To hopefully spur folks into trying out more of the company’s tools and features, Yahoo! has done a quick rundown of some features and provided links to their four-part series of posts on improving ad quality (which talk about a lot of the stuff they want us to try out).

The Ad Text Writer is interesting to say the least. You put in a URL and the Ad Text Writer will scan the page and offer up some possible text ads. Sounds easy, huh? It is! But the results are… unpredictable… and mostly unusable. What’s interesting about the Ad Text Writer, though, is that it gives you a good idea of what kinds of keywords and wording you should bid on to get your ad to trigger. If, for example, you run a site about cars and the Ad Text Writer pulls the word “wheels” out of your site on every test ad it shows you… I’d use the word wheels in your ad copy and bid on that word. But that’s just me.

Once again… the most complete SES 07 San Jose coverage I’ve seen can be found at SERoundtable.

Have a great night, folks. See you back here bright and early in the morning!
