In addition to today’s Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for August 27, 2007:

icon_star.png Searches Trust Google’s Rank Above Abstracts In Search Results [Search Engine Land]

Basically we’ve got a study that showed Cornell University students thought the ranking provided by Google was a better indicator of how relevant a page was to their search than the little snippet of text accompanying the listing. I’m not sure what this really shows. Yes… it could, as the title implies, show that people trust Google’s rank more so than their own. But it could also show a failing of the university system to teach students how to think for themselves. Either way… it’s an interesting study ;)Headlines of Note

icon_star.png Update to management of the Microsoft adCenter trademark policy [adCenter Blog]

This is a couple of days old (I missed a couple of days)… but still worth mentioning. In a nutshell, Microsoft is stepping out of trademark disputes when it comes to bidding in adCenter. The company will no longer concern itself with who has the rights to use trademarked terms other than the trademark owner. Basically… you’re on your own to find and report trademark violations. Microsoft will investigate and remove offending ads… but it will no longer get in the middle of these disputes or accept documentation concerning who is allowed to use trademarked terms.

In terms of slow news days… this was one of the slowest. But it’s to be expected on the first working day back after a week-long conference. Until more exciting times… good night ;) We’ll see you tomorrow!
