You might have noticed the little icons around here that look like an open book. They normally appear next to terminology relating to internet marketing, such as SEO, PPC, and directory. If you hadn't noticed them before, you'll see them now. Those icons represent terms that can be defined with a click of the mouse. It's a pretty neat feature of the Internet Marketing Monitor. If you click the term itself it will load the definition in the existing window. If you click the icon it will load the definition in a new window. Cool, huh? All of the work associated with linking to the terms, generating the definition pages, and iconifying the links is handled by a plugin for WordPress. All we do is type and publish and the plugin handles the rest. It even lets us decide whether to link to every instance of a word in a post or just the first one. We could still create, manage, and link to terms in our glossary by hand. But that'd be a lot of work! Especially when there's a handy-dandy plugin that will do it for us. Where can YOU get this plugin? Good question! And luckily, the answer is right here! The Internet Marketing Monitor is pleased to announce the immediate release of our first WordPress plugin: IMM-Glossary. IMM-Glossary has been a big help to us. It automates the whole process of creating, managing, and implementing our glossary. All we have to do is add terms and definitions to the database and the plugin does the rest. In fact, the plugin even goes back to all of the posts we've written in the past and linkifies them, as well. It lets you decide whether or not to include an icon (which you can change) and creates a master glossary page complete with navigation links at the bottom. This is the 1.0 release, so we're extremely interested in your constructive feedback. We've been using the plugin here for a while and are pretty sure we've worked most of the bugs out. Give it a try and let us know if you find any we missed or if you have an idea for how to make a 2.0 release even better.
