While using the Google Book Search a few days ago, I started wondering how long it would be before Google had indexed enough books to replace several libraries.  They probably already have more books than most single libraries.  Eventually they'd have to have more books than several libraries combined.  I'm sure their lofty goal is one day have every book in the world included.

It's almost as if they were reading my mind.

Yesterday afternoon the Google Book Search team made a quick update to the status of the so-called Library Project.  Two years ago, when the project started, Google partnered with five libraries to include their entire selection of books in the search.  Today, the library project includes 9 libraries and Google says more are on the way.  So I guess the answer to my initial question is… any day now.

The libraries included in the project are:  Harvard University, University of Michigan, New York Public Library, Oxford University, Stanford University, University of California, University of Wisconsin - Madison, Complutense University of Madrid, and the University of Virginia.
