If you're an open source developer, chances are you house your project at one of the many online open source repositories.  Most of them offer similar features and allow your project a centralized location from which to prosper.  Google Code offers such a service and announced late Friday night that it had added two often requested features to its offering:

• File Downloads give you the option of offering files for download to visitors.  This is really an essential function of any project hosting service, but Google said it wanted to get the product out of the door as soon as possible.  With the addition of downloads Google has finally made the service more of a viable option.
• Wikis are now included on every project page.  The Wikis, available under… you guessed it… the Wiki tab of the project page can be written and uploaded with any Subversion client.

If you haven't started an open source project yet, but plan on doing so in the future, Google Code now offers a more competitive project.  The main draw, in my opinion, is the expected look and feel of a Google product.  The interface is very clean, very simple, and very easy to use.
