Yahoo has long been able to say that it was more "popular" than Google.  Although more people use Google to search, Yahoo has consistently outranked Google in terms of visitors.  Much of that success has been due to Yahoo's more diversified portfolio of services.  While the vast majority of Google's traffic comes from its search engine, Yahoo enjoys a wide range of popular services that have kept it ahead of it's biggest competitor.

That trend may be reversing.

According to a recent comScore report, and reported by Yahoo! News, November saw Google overtake Yahoo's second place position behind Microsoft.  Of the 736 million people surfing the internet last month, 475,713,000 stopped by Google versus 475,262,000 that took a trip to Yahoo's websites.  Microsoft held its number one spot with 501,720,000 visitors.

Yahoo is slowly loosing more and more territory.  While we wait to see if the changes underfoot at the company do anything to reverse trends set in motion several years ago, it appears that more and more people are turning to Google over Yahoo.  Yahoo's visitors actually increased by 5% in November.  But Google's visitors increased by 9%.  Simple math can tell you where that story ends, should the trend continue.

Gmail, and now taking over blogspot almost guaranteed Google the advantage. Yahoo’s mail service is notable for it’s… um… suckage. So, while marketing counts to get your service seen… service trumps all at the end of the day. Sorry Yah… Google wins.
