A lot of website owners use Google AdSense to help generate a little extra money from their sites.  AdSense is the program that allows website owners to display targeted Google ads on their websites and share in the revenue generated by clickthroughs. The Inside AdSense blog has posted their top 10 list of accomplishments for 2006 as a kind of summary of the program over the past 12 months.

First impressions:  they didn't do much this year.

Three of the 10 items on the list have to do with internationalization.  While serving customers who speak other languages is a good thing, I don't see each individual instance warranting its own post.  Why not just say "AdSense Internationalized" and list all the examples.  If they had to separate them all out, it makes me think there weren't a lot of other choices.

Other items on the list include Click-to-Play Ads, meeting publishers, help forums, a personal profile, referral program (which isn't that spectacular anyway), "optimization month", AdSense in IFRAMEs, and landing quality page scores.  Some of those accomplishments were decent (Click-to-Play, landing quality page scores).  Some are more common sense than special accomplishments (help forums, optimization).

All in all, I'd say it hasn't been a stellar year for AdSense improvements.  But it's still nice to see them do something with the program.  And I'm not complaining about any of the items in the list.  I just wasn't impressed with the list that comprises their "best" accomplishments.
