All of you financial connoisseurs and Wall Street types out there listen up: if Google has its way, you'll soon be able to get free, real-time stock prices from the New York Stock Exchange on Google Finance. According to an article posted to the Official Google Blog late last night, Google has been in discussions with the SEC, the NYSE, and its own trade association to find a way to make the real-time quotes available for free to Google Finance users. Since the markets can change in a heartbeat, real-time quotes would be extremely valuable tools to investors, stockholders, and company executives. But, as Google points out, free, real-time quotes aren't a reality as of yet. Presumably using some of its own financial muscle, Google has "encouraged" the SEC to find ways to bring the information to Google users. In response, the NYSE has issued a recommendation to the SEC that, pending approval, would give Google the ability to offer real-time information from the market. Google recently revamped it's Financial services page. The addition of free, real-time quotes would give Google a distinct advantage over a lot of the competition and might help the company become a dominant force in the financial information market as well. As the Google Blog post says… stay tuned for further announcements.
