As I’ve said numerous times, I love passing along the successes of other companies. We can all learning a little something from the things that other companies and businesses have done, especially when they involve topics we discuss here at the Internet Marketing Monitor. I ran across a couple of Internet Retailer success stories that I wanted to pass along:

Zappos, a popular Internet destination for shoes, increased sales during 2006 a whopping 61%. Contributing to the company’s success in 2006 were a new inventory system, an increase in offered brands, and the creation of several vertical sites dedicated to outdoor footwear and running shoes.

Zappos started 2007 with a permanent free shipping offer that it testing during the holiday season and an expansion in the diversity of products offered. The company’s goal is to top $800 million in sales during 2007. Read more…

Online shoe sales are really starting to heat up. Maybe we need to start following the “shoe wars”.

PetsUnited

After the 2006 acquisition of Country Supply, online pet supply company PetsUnited expanded it’s single URL company to include 7 distinct vertical sites. The new websites, like dog.com and fish.com, feature a lot of Web 2.0 abilities. Blogs, product reviews, videos, and discussion forums are designed to help draw in new customers with promises of interactivity.

In addition, the company plans to implement enhanced search features on its sites sometime in February. In addition to searching traditional content, the new search will find information in over 10,000 articles that are to be added to the site along with blogs and video content. Read more…
