Speculation and predictions abound on the Internet.  Everyone has an opinion on something or thinks they know what the next move of some major corporation is going to be.  More times than not, these predictions don't turn out to be anything.  But sometimes they do.

If you're one of the hundreds (or thousands) of people out there waiting with baited breath to see if Google would release an office suite of products to compete with Microsoft Office, a discovery by Ionut Alex. Chitu over the weekend might be just what you wanted to hear.

While experimenting with different ways to upload files to Google's Docs & Spreadsheets service, Chitu discovered a JS file with a list of all the messages Docs & Spreadsheets uses to communicate with users.  Referenced in the JS file was a product called "Presently" that has something to do with presentations.

Could this be a Google rival to PowerPoint?

Since publishing his find, Chitu says Google has removed the references to the product in the file he uncovered.  But he was smart enough to screenshot the file before it was altered.  The screenshot, available at his blog, clearly makes references to the new product:

var MSG_POPUP_BLOCKER="Presently is unable to launch your presentation in full-screen mode. Check your pop-up blocker settings.";

var MSG_EXIT_PRESENTATION="Exit presentation";
var MSG_END_OF_PRESENTATION="End of presentation. Are you sure you want to exit?";

What do you think?  Does Chitu's discovery have an real relevance or impact on Microsoft?  And does the addition of a presentation application make Google Docs & Spreadsheets more appealing to you?  I already use it… and I for one would welcome "Presently".  But does it matter to those of you who aren't using it?  Would you be any more likely to give Docs & Spreadsheets a try if it included presentation software?
