It’s been a couple of weeks since I shared any of the numerous success stories from other companies having success with their online marketing endeavors. I like to pass these stories along because there’s almost always something that can be learned from the success of others. Office Depot - Based in part on a redesigned site, better analytics, and new reporting, Office Depot reported a 13% increase in online sales for 2006. Online sales currently account for almost one-third of the company’s $15 billion in sales. Site design, analytics, and reporting are all important factors of any online business that we’ve discussed on several occasions here at The Internet Marketing Monitor. Napster - By making strategic partnerships and exclusive deals with a number of universities, mobile providers, and online properties, Napster has been able to increase sales by 21% for the third quarter of fiscal 2007. Partnerships are a great way to not only expand your user base but also grow your brand image by associating yourself with trusted partners. ABAbooks.org - The American Bar Association hopes to continue the trend in its online sales (which rose by 9% in 2006) by rolling out several site improvements throughout 2007. Those improvements include customized shopping experiences, better navigation, and a strengthened brand look and feel. Kettle Foods - They hardly even had a website, let alone an e-commerce site. But after deciding to incorporate some viral elements into a new site, Kettle had an excellent run on new products that sold out much faster than the company could have hoped for. And by appealing to blog writers, Kettle was able to get a huge amount of traffic from user generated reviews (31% of it’s total traffic). Jamestown Distributors - The company was able to double conversion rates and increase average order sizes by more than 20% by automating some back-end processes, adding popularity rankings, and building the relationship between the company’s IT and Marketing departments.
