It's not so much a guide as it is a long list of other guides on a diverse set of topics. Everything from SEO for blogs to using StumbleUpon to creating great headlines is covered in the one of the other guides linked to. This list is definitely worth looking over. Identify your weakness or areas you could do better in and then find the guide(s) that are best suited to exactly what you need to work on.
A couple of weeks ago we pointed you to an article at MMORG that said Google was in talks to buy Adscape Media. I guess those talks went successfully because Google has agreed to acquire the company whose technology serves up targeted advertising to online gamers for $23 million. Adscape's technology would allow Google to target products to demographic and geographic information.
Reports are apparently coming in from several places on the web that suggest Google's recent AdWords Quality Score algorithm change added more to the service than subtle changes… namely in the form of a bug. According to this post at PPC Discussions, Google has acknowledged the bug but did not provide a timeframe for a fix.
I got a chuckle out of this post. Apparently, Stephen Colbert has been enticing viewers of his show to manipulate Wikipedia articles. According to the data presented by Compete, traffic to the pages at Wikipedia Colbert mentioned on his show saw heavy spikes immediately following airing. As Max Freiert points out… Wikipedia is not amused. But I am. Because it shows how easy it is to skew and tamper with Wikipedia entries. And if fans of other personalities start deciding to mess with the online encyclopedia, it'd be next to impossible for the folks behind Wikipedia to catch them all.
This fairly lengthy review of a recent webcast by link building expert Eric Ward is a must read. Ward talks about the types of links, the value of links, how search engines look at different types of links, and ways to actually go about acquiring some of those links. It clears up a lot of confusion about paid links, natural links, and spammy links and the ways that search engines typically deal with them. Excellent information.
