Site search gets supplemental (Google Custom Search Blog)

This was basically just an announcement from Google about the addition of supplemental search results for Google Custom Search engines.  If your filtering custom search has 3 sites or less, or if includes the entire Internet, you'll start seeing supplement results in you custom search results.

Watch Out MyBlogLog - Here Comes Explode (TechCrunch)

Explode is similar to MBL in that it's a social widget for websites and blogs.  But it's different in that it connects people across various social networks.  Oh… and it's open source, too.

Does Google Use Click Data For Ranking Purposes? (Search Engine Roundtable)

We may never know the answer to this question for sure.  But you know they're doing something with it.  As mentioned in the SE Roundtable post, click data is probably coming into play a lot for personalized search.  Does it affect your search rankings?  If so, the impact is negligible.

Plus Boxes - A New Way to Look at Search Results (Google Operating System)

According to this post, Google plans to continue rolling out these plus boxes for a number of its services (including Google Scholar and Google Video).  I don't know where that information came from so I can't confirm or deny it. But if that's true, it really could mean "a new way to look at search results".  Some site owners might not like the added information, though.  Imagine your users going no further than the Plus Box of the Google search results to find what they need to know… without ever going to your page…

  Coming Up:  Vonage Wireless (BusinessWeek.com)

So Vonage is going from VoIP provider to wireless supplier.  I hope it works out for them.  But do we honestly need yet another MVNO?  The ones that exist now are only marginally competitive, despite what the BusinessWeek article says.  What can Vonage bring to the wireless table that hasn't been done 10 times already?  Of course… the whole question might become moot if Vonage has to shut down its service (which I'm not counting on happening).

Introducing the Retail Knowledge Center (Inside AdWords)

Google's AdWords Retail team has created a new resource for advertising in the retail industry.  I gave it a once-over and it looks like there could be some valuable knowledge there.  Not surprisingly, the front page of the Retail Knowledge Center contains a huge plug for Google Checkout.  If I could digitally roll my eyes I would.
