March 28, 2007
In addition to today's Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for March 28, 2007:
Yahoo had a couple of announcements today. To celebrate its 10th birthday, Yahoo! Mail will be moving to unlimited storage in the next couple of months. That kinda beats Gmail… doesn't it? The second bit of news has to do with a partnership between Yahoo! and McClatchy news corporation. McClatchy will start providing Yahoo News with foreign correspondence from a number of international locations. Combined with Yahoo's Virgin mobile announcement, today makes for a busy day for Sunnyvale!
Serph is a new search engine that helps you discover what folks are talking about (or saying about you, your company, or your product) at any given time. It searches a number of social news sites (like Digg, Sphere, Bloglines, Newsvine, and Technorati to name a few) to figure out what "the buzz" around a given search term is.
My favorite of these is #5: "Be a drama queen". There are lots of ways to drive traffic to a blog (or any website, for that matter). None of these are really rocket science. But, as usual, I like to be reminded of the basics from time to time.
Just a heads up: Slurp, Yahoo's crawler, is moving to a new server. The old server (inktomisearch.com) is being replaced by crawl.yahoo.net in a phased rollout that begins immediately. Both servers will be used with the change occurs with inktomisearch.com slowly being phased out. Update your robots.txt and any other Yahoo-related controls you might have in place.
R/W Web's monthly update on alternative search engines. This month's featured search engine is KoolTorch - a rather interesting way to search for content. I don't have a whole lot to add to this, though. Give it a look and maybe find a new search engine or two! Here's to wishing everyone a great Wednesday night. As for me… there's a Tylenol at home with my name on it! Haha. See you Thursday!
