If you take a look at some Hitwise data on the Top 4 Fastest Moving Sites for February 2007, you'll notice something:  3/4 of those sites deal with fantasy sports.  As I've said a number of times, monitoring and watching trends is one of the best ways to learn about successful website creation.

Now you may be thinking… what, if anything, can I learn from that?

Don't have a fantasy sport site?  That's fine.  There are still a lot of ways that you can make money with this information.

  1. Remember it next year.  Planning for the future is one of the best ways to maximize the revenue you generate.
  2. Add content to your site that people looking for information on fantasy sports might be interested in.  You don't have to have a fantasy site to include content on the topic.  Here we are, a site on Internet marketing… and we just added content related to fantasy sports.  There are a lot of ways to do it.  You just have to spend some time brainstorming.
  3. Advertise on some players names.  Join an affiliate program.  Build some linkage to related websites.  There are a lot of ways to use advertising to your advantage.
  4. Think outside the box.  Some of the best ideas in practice are the ones that sound a little far-fetched at first.  Break your molds and come up with something wild and unique.

Spend some time today thinking about the idea.  Use whatever process you're already using to come up with new ideas.  Invent a new process.  With a little brain power and a little time, there's no telling what you can come up.
