April 26, 2007
In addition to today’s Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for April 26, 2007:
The title here is pretty self explanatory: Yahoo News search results now include images and videos. As Search Engine Land points out, these image and video results are from Yahoo News… not the larger Yahoo Search index. Search Watch initially carried the story (but Search Engine Land’s picture was better).
Ask.com has decided to go up against Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft with a contextual advertising network all its own. According to Ask.com, the new advertising network will offer a level of customization and transparency not currently available from the other guys. Publishers will be able to choose between displaying ads that pay more or ads that are more relevant. In addition, Ask is promising an unprecedented level of customization for the appearance of their ads (and if the examples at the Ask.com Blog are any indication, they’re pretty snazzy looking). Advertisers will also be given more information and more control than they are used to with Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft… but details are sketchy.
Move over Google - the real money maker in the technology industry has just reported their first quarter results. Yes… you can laugh about my attempted slam on Google’s monstrous profits. That being said, Microsoft announced nearly $5 billion in net income on $14.40 billion for the quarter (compared to Google’s $1 billion). Congrats to Microsoft on a great quarter! Please excuse our dust as we get settled in with our new host. And thanks for putting up with the past couple of light-post days. Moving is never fun but I think the worst is behind us now. See you on Friday!
