When I said I'd share when something new developed, I didn't expect it to develop today. None the less, yesterday I wrote about a blog hinting at the inclusion of Google Click-to-Call in Google Maps. Today the Official Google Blog made the announcement officially. Furthermore, the feature seems to be more widespread. Yesterday, I attempted to do several sample searches. I even repeated the search done by the blog writer who I was linking to. None of the results included the "Call" option. Today, however, it has appeared next to every search I've done in Google Maps. I even tested it. I entered my cell phone number, clicked "Connect for free"… and what do you know: my phone rang and, when I answered it, I heard the sound of my call being connected. Besides being down right cool, this feature can put you in touch with millions of Google users. I said it yesterday and I'll say it again: check your business listings in Google, ASAP!

I understand the technology for this is provided by VoIP, Inc. the same company who has been providing Google’s Click to Call service since December 2005. This company also provided the technology behind a promotional campaign for the new season of “America’s Next Top Model” on the CW Network which allowed allows fans to send and receive personalized phone messages from Trya Banks, the show’s star. The company also worked on the successful “Snakes on a Plane” phone campaign that featured the voice of Samuel L. Jackson. And, in October, VoIP, Inc. began powering what could be the largest Click to Call promotional campaigns ever developed, for the NFL Network. It’s all on their website, www.voipinc.com.
