The Internet Marketing Monitor is pleased to announce the release of our second WordPress plug-in: IMM-Keywords.

As many WordPress users are already aware, adding keyword meta tags to WordPress isn’t a cut-and-dry process. There’s no built-in functionality that allows you to easy specify keywords for your posts. We searched out and tried several other plug-ins and decided they all suffered from one of two problems:

  1. They were outdated and didn’t work with the newest version of WordPress
  2. They were much more complicated than they needed to be and required modifying code and/or template files

The IMM-Keywords plug-in solves both problems. Not only is it WordPress 2.1 compatible, but it’s also one of the easiest to use plug-ins you’ll find. All you have to do is upload and activate. There is no code to edit, no tags to insert, and no modification of your existing template required.

All you have to do is supply the keywords!

How it Works

Plain and simple, it just does. After installing the plug-in you’ll notice a new field in your WordPress Write Post / Write Page admin that looks like this:

IMM-Keywords - Click to Enlarge

Simply enter the keywords you’d like to associate with the post and hit ‘Publish’ (after you’ve written your post, of course). The plug-in will automatically insert properly formatted keyword meta tags into the source of that post. The IMM-Keywords plug-in even scans for commas and, if you forget them, will add ‘em for you! (Note: it’s important to remember to use commas if you’re using keyword phrases… otherwise the plug-in will put commas between all the words in your phrase).

Options

What about the main index page? A lot of blogs contain posts spanning a wide range of topics on their index page. And what about older posts or other pages that don’t have any keywords associated with them? Not a problem!

The IMM-Keywords plug-in lets you set a group of “default” keywords that it will apply to the main index and other special pages, as well as any other page that doesn’t have keywords associated with it. If you’ve already added keywords using another method, the IMM-Keywords plug-in leaves them alone.

It’s pretty simple. Just go to your Options page and look for “IMM-Keywords”. The screen looks like this:

Enter your default keywords and hit “Update”. That’s it. Hit refresh on your index page and watch in awe as your site becomes keyword-ified.

This is our initial release so we’d love some feedback. Like I said before, the plug-in is dirt-easy and simple. That’s what we’re shooting for. But if you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make it better, or if you run across any issues while using the plug-in, please let us know either by email or using the comments section of the plug-in’s homepage.

And don’t forget to check out our other WordPress plug-in, the IMM-Glossary. It lets you create a glossary of terms and then automatically links your terms to their definitions. Version 2.0.2 just came out and it’s sporting some awesome new features!
