One year ago yesterday, Google set out to help the world create an organized, searchable database of content.  Today we celebrate the one year birthday of that effort, Google Base.

As opposed to traditional forms of online content, Google Base doesn't require information to be online.  Users without an online presence or webpage can add their content to Base and Google publishes it for them.  That content then becomes available in the whole gamet of Google services, like Search, Maps, and Froogle.

To celebrate their one year birthday, The Official Google Base Blog posted some achievements from the previous year and highlighted some cool things that folks are doing with base.  The Base API allows you to integrate Google Base into your site's existing search.  When someone queries your site, results from Google Base are incorporated.  The Google Base Blog has included several links to sites using the API to make their search even better.

In addition, the blog gives sample Google search queries to illustrate how Base information is being incorporated into the standard Google search results.  The launch of Google Base in several international markets and an overview of new features round out the celebratory post.

For the right kind of content, Google Base could offer an excellent opportunity to get your products, services, or information into the hands of internet users.  I have a feeling we'll be celebrating even more Base features and abilities at this time next year.  And since we're celebrating a birthday, I'd say presents are in order.

The best present you could give Google Base… would be more content.
